  • Escorted by well-kown quilt pattern desiger Sherri Falls, this tour incorporates many different textile related experiences. There will be numerous stops as we make our way through the beautiful UK countryside, visiting famous places of interest. Two full days will be spent at the biggest quilt show in Europe and the UK – The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, where you will be able to immerse yourself in quilt displays, classes, demonstrations and of course shopping.

  • Day 1     Sun        July 25                   Arrive London

    Day 2     Mon      July 26                   London
    This morning we will spend a few hours at Victoria and Albert Museum. The V&A Museum is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.3 million objects. Later enjoy a sightseeing tour of London including key sites such as Tower of London, Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. We will also pay a visit to Liberty of London for some fabric shopping. (B)

    Day 3     Tue        July 27                   London-Bath
    After breakfast visit Antique Textiles Company before heading to Bath. On the way, will visit Country Threads quilt shop and explore textile collections at the American Museum, where vintage American quilts include 18th century examples by Sioux and Amish women, and slaves. Arrive Bath in late afternoon. (B)

    Day 4     Wed      July 28                   Bath - Cardiff
    Today visit the Roman Baths. No visit to the city would be complete without time at the Roman Baths. Travel to Cardiff. Visit the Cardiff Castle followed by visit to the St Fagans National History Museum. The Cardiff Castle was at once a Roman fort, an impressive castle and an extraordinary Victorian Gothic fantasy palace. Learn about the historical lifestyle, culture, and architecture of the Welsh people at the St Fagans National Museum of History, an open-air museum. Tonight you will enjoy a Welsh Banquet at Cardiff Castle. (B D)

    Day 5     Thu     July 29                        Cardiff-Lampeter-Birmingham
    After breakfast, board the coach to Birmingham. En route, visit the Jen Jones Welsh Quilt Centre, the center of the Welsh quilt and quilting tradition. Later travel to the Forge Mill Needle Museum in Redditch. The museum tells the fascinating and sometimes gruesome story of needle making in Victorian times. The Mill is a listed building which houses original water powered machinery. Models, recreated scenes and an audio trail provide a vivid illustration of how needles were once made and how Redditch came to dominate the world needle trade. Afterwards check in at the hotel in Birmingham and enjoy a group dinner. (B D)

    Day 6-7  Fri-Sat  July 30-31                Birmingham
    Explore the Festival of Quilts at the NEC Convention Centre in Birmingham. (B)

    Day 8     Sun        August 1                               Birmingham-York
    Travel through green English countryside to York, where you can stroll through the narrow streets of this medieval city. After a visit to the famous York Minster, meet with a member of the Quilter’s Guild of the British Isles who specialises in North Country quilts. Her private collection dates from the early 19th and 20th century, and she has invited us to view the extraordinary detail of her pristine collection. Also visit Axholme Quilting, a famed fabric and quilting store features beautiful fabric, wool and yarn. (B)

    Day 9     Mon      August 2                               York
    Visit an ancient market town - Barnard Castle and 19th century French chateau housing the Bowes Museum, Britain’s largest and best European textile collection, with tapestries, needlework, lace and quilts from the 15th to 19th centuries. (B)

    Day 10 Tue          August 3                               York-London
    Travel by coach to London. On the way, visit Lady Sew & Sew and Windsor Castle in Windsor. Windsor Castle has been the family home to British kings and queens for over 1,000 years. The Castle is the largest and oldest occupied Castle in the world and is where Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II chooses to spend most of her private weekends. Be sure to check the Castle’s Round Tower for the Royal Standard indicating the Queen is in residence. Farewell dinner tonight. (B D)
