  • Day 1   Sun   May 15         Arrive Casablanca
    Arrive in Casablanca and transfer to hotel for check in. Enjoy a short walking tour prior to a welcome dinner at the hotel. (D)

    Day 2   Mon   May 16       Casablanca-Rabat-Chefchaouen
    This morning visit the Hassan II Mosqe before leaving by coach for Chefchaouen. En route, stop at Rabat, the capital city and residence of the King, to enjoy the beauty of this coastal city. Continue travel to Chefchaouen for overnight. (B, L, D)

    Day 3   Tue   May 17         Chefchaouen
    Explore the many small streets of the medina in this lovely town known for its rich blue color. Its multicultural heritage arises from its varied inhabitants, including Berber tribe people, Muslims, Jews, and Moors. Spend the afternoon at an NGO where craftspeople card, spin, and weave wool into fabric for Jelaba and Kasaba garments, traditional long, loose-fitting, outer robes. (B)

    Day 4   Wed   May 18       Chefchaouen-Fes
    Travel to Fes with en route visits to Volubilis and Meknes. (B, D)

    Day 5   Thu   May 19         Fes
    Take a walking tour of Fes and enjoy a visit a tannery to see how colorful leather is produced at the continent's largest such facility. Next, attend a cactus silk weaving workshop. Cactus silk is loomed by hand, from fibers found in the agave cacti in the Sahara Desert. This beautiful Moroccan textile is a crowd favorite due to its distinctive silky touch and the intricate, intricate way it is traditionally assembled. (B, D)

    Day 6   Fri   May 20           Fes
    Visit Bou Inania Madrasa, an Islamic learning center that is an example of Marinid architecture. Then visit weaving and embroidery workshops before heading to the Cherry Button Cooperative to practice making needle-woven buttons. Next, explore nearby Bhalil, a village known for cave houses and the making of djellaba buttons. (B, D)

    Day 7   Sat   May 21          Fes-Afourer
    Cross the Middle Atlas through the city of Ifrane, known as Little Switzerland because of its alpine rooflines and its mountain peaks that are almost always snow-covered. En route to Afourer, visit Khenifra, Kasbah Tadla and the city of Beni Mellal. (B, L, D)

    Day 8   Sun   May 22         Afourer-Marrakech
    Depart for Marrakech. En route, visit a Berber village where Berber people live in mud brick houses. Enjoy rug making and rug wool dyeing demonstrations. Arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon. (B, D)

    Day 9   Mon   May 23       Marrakech
    Start the day with a visit to Jardin Majorelle, a breathtaking, enclosed garden created by French painter Jacques Majorelle that was 40 years in the making. The property was once owned by Yves Saint Laurent, whose collection of North African textiles is at the Musée Berbère. (B, D)

    Day 10   Tue   May 24       Marrakech
    A guided tour provides an introduction to Marrakech, known as "the pearl of the south." Historical sightseeing includes the late 19th century Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Medersa, Saadian tombs, and many other treasures. Enjoy an afternoon visit to the dyer district. (B, D)

    Day 11   Wed   May 25     Marrakech-Tameslouht-Essaouira
    Travel the short distance from Marrakech to the village of Tameslouht. Meet the ladies of the village cooperative who will lead embroidery classes. Later travel to the coastal city of Essaouira. (B, D)

    Day 12   Thu   May 26       Essaouira
    Travel south of Essaouira to attend a full-day Natural Dye Workshop. (B)

    Day 13   Fri   May 27         Essaouira
    Enjoy a city tour of this Portuguese fortress dating from the 18th century. It is a beautiful destination on the Atlantic coastline. Along the way, visit a jewelry cooperative. (B)

    Day 14   Sat   May 28        Essaouira-Casablanca
    Travel to Casablanca with an en route stop at Safi, famous for ceramics and textiles. It is the Moroccan capital for pottery and home to the largest tagine in the world. Continue via El Jadida for a tour of the Portuguese citadel. Upon arrival in Casablanca, check into hotel. Enjoy a farewell dinner. (B, D)

    Day 15   Sun   May 29       Depart Casablanca
    After breakfast, group transfer to Casablanca International Airport for onward flight. (B)

    Fitness to participate:
    To get the most from your travels and to keep up with the group, a reasonable level of fitness is required. You will need to be able to walk for a few hours at a gentle pace; use combined shower/bath facilities (it is impossible to guarantee walk-in shower facilities); undertake walking tours of 1-2 hours duration, including using stairs, walking over cobblestones and other uneven surfaces; stand for long periods in museums and other sites; embark/disembark coaches, trains and other methods of transportation without assistance; and handle your own luggage.
