  • Day 1 -    Arrive Tokyo
    On arrival shared transfer takes you to the hotel in Tokyo for check-in.

    Day 2 -    Tokyo
    This morning we will visit the Sumida Hokusai Museum, a museum dedicated to the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. His most well-known works include The Great Wave off Kanagawa and Red Fuji, which are a couple of prints from the collection Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. Then attend a Japanese cooking class where we will enjoy a Sushi making experience and lunch. After lunch we will take a stroll through the beautiful Imperial Palace East Garden and visit a Furoshiki shop that offers a range of Furoshiki from traditional to modern designs. Enjoy welcome dinner tonight. (B, D)

    Day 3 -    Tokyo
    Today we will visit Janome Sewing Machine Company for a tour. Then enjoy a ½ day workshop led by Kimberly Einmo, Janome’s National Spokesperson. (B)

    Day 4 -    Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival
    Today and tomorrow you will have full day pass to the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival at the Tokyo Dome adjacent to our hotel. This world famous show includes wonderful quilts and special exhibits from around the world as well as a variety of demonstrations and unique shopping opportunities. (B)

    Day 5 -     Tokyo
    After breakfast, we visit the famous Blue & White shop and the historic Nippori Fabric Town, home to nearly 100 shops carrying all sorts of fabric and notions.  Return to hotel and visit Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival in the afternoon. (B)

    Day 6 -    Tokyo-Kawaguchi Lake
    Today we will travel by coach to Kawaguchi Lake with a stop at the beautiful Itchiku Kubota Museum to see the stunning Kubota Kimono Collection. We’ll also make a stop at the Muse Museum, home of the captivating dolls created by Yuki Atae. We will visit the Fujisan World Heritage Center for more information on Mt Fuji and the Fuji Five Lakes. This evening we’ll enjoy the view from our Onsen Hotel. (B, D) 

    Day 7 -    Kawaguchi Lake-Mishima-Kyoto
    After breakfast, we’ll be catching coach and train to Kyoto where we visit Kyoto Museum of Crafts and Design (formerly known as Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan). Familiarize yourself with the techniques and history of local handicrafts, and admire exhibits covering dozens of categories and over 500 samples of traditional crafts. (B)

    Day 8 -    Kyoto-Arimatsu-Kyoto
    This morning we’ll travel by coach to Hiedaira to visit the Kyoto studio of world famous Quilt artist, Yoshiko Jinzenji. We will visit the famous indigo dyeing shop Aizenkobo before travelling by coach to the spectacular Kinkakuji Temple, known as the Golden Pavilion and visit Japan’s most famous rock garden, Ryoanji Temple. Later, we will be participating in a Rocketsu dyeing workshop using a traditional wax-resist dyeing method. (B)

    Day 9 -    Kyoto
    Following breakfast, we travel by Bullet Train to Arimatsu – the center of Shibori dyeing dating back to the early 17th century. We’ll visit the Narumi Tie-Dyeing Museum and participate in a Shibori-dyeing workshop. Explore the town before returning to Kyoto. (B)

    Day 10 -    Kyoto
    This morning we visit the intriguing Fushimi Inari Shrine. The magical, seemingly unending path of over 5000 vibrant orange torii gates that wind through the hills behind Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine makes it one of the most popular shrines in Japan. Afterwards you will have an opportunity to create your own masterpiece in the Yuzen painting workshop. We’ll then stop at Kyoto’s Kitchen – Nishiki Food Market and visit the iconic Nomura Tailor, filled with 3 floors of everything for last-minute fabric shopping. We’ll end our day with a walk through Kyoto’s best known Geisha quarter – Gion District. This evening we will share our farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)

    Day 11 -    Depart Kyoto
    Our tour ends after breakfast. Limousine bus takes you to the airport for your onward flight. (B)

    Hotel Rooms in Japan: Please note that there are limited ‘double-bedded’ rooms available in most Japanese hotels. Most rooms for two persons are ‘twin-bedded’. Most hotels in Japan have single rooms which are smaller rooms with a single bed and private facilities. The single supplement is based on a single room. If you wish to have more space we offer a single supplement for a double room for sole use, additional cost will apply please contact us.

    Tour participants will need to carry their own luggage, board a bus unaided, walk a mile, and navigate uneven surfaces including stairs.
