OVERVIEW 

This special craft tour to Japan is designed and led by JaneMap Japanese Textiles, Crafts & Sashiko Tour with Jane MacDonald MacDonald, focusing on a number of hands on crafts including washi paper making, Indigo dyeing, temari ball making, traditional stencilling techniques, tenegui stamp printing, yuzen and shibori dyeing with visits to a number of textile and sashiko related establishments which Jane is excited to share.

  • Explore Tokushima, the heart of Japan’s Indigo industry
  • Learn about Awagami Fine Art Paper that are crafted exclusively in Tokushima
  • Participate a Temari Ball Workshop with famous artist Eiko Araki
  • Discover Hiroshima’s World Cultural Heritage sites such as Atomic Bomb Dome and its surrounding memorial park
  • Visit Textile Designer Yumi Ishikita and enjoy a dyeing workshop

START & FINISH

The tour starts at 6.00pm, Thursday November 16, at Sheraton Miyako Hotel Osaka. Tour tour finishes after breakfast on Wednesday November 29 at Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo. Complementary airport limousine bus transfer from airport to hotel in Osaka and airport limousine bus transfer from hotel to airport in Tokyo are included. Please contact us for details.

Jane MacDonald has been interested in Japanese textiles and crafts for over twenty years, developing a specialty in the craft of sashiko stitching and design. Initially drawn to the quality and detail in the workmanship of Japanese textiles, Jane now teaches sashiko extensively throughout Australia and internationally.

What is included in the tour price?

  • 13 night’s twin share accommodation at well-appointed hotels
  • Airport limousine bus transfer from airport to hotel in Osaka and airport limousine bus transfer from hotel to airport in Tokyo*
  • Private chartered coach during tour as stated in the itinerary, ferry ticket to Hiroshima, train ticket from Kyoto to Odawara

For tour members depart on Nov 29th from Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo to Haneda or Narita airport, complementary limousine bus ticket will be provided.
