WORKSHOPS

JUDY COATES PEREZ, INSTRUCTOR

Judy Coates Perez, Instructor, a skilled mixed-media textile artist and educator with a BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, is celebrated for her vibrant art quilts that blend paints, inks, and printed ephemera, drawing inspiration from nature and her surroundings. In 2020, Judy’s textile work took a new turn as she embraced hand-stitching linen with a simple running stitch and embroidery floss as a meditative practice to relieve the stresses of the pandemic. This mindful stitching process has since become an integral part of her daily life, and she’s thrilled to share her Mindful Stitching workshop with fellow enthusiasts, inspired by this shared journey in France.

JCP

MINDFUL STITCHING WORKSHOP

18 copy

Slow down and discover inner peace through improvisational stitching on linen, using simple techniques inspired by Boro mending that yield beautiful results without needing perfection. Judy will share her mindful stitching process that encourages the concept of letting go of plans and expectations and embracing improvisation while using a simple running stitch as a form of active meditation.
This approach fosters a sense of artistic freedom, encouraging a deeper connection with your stitching while focusing on the process, rather than striving for perfection in the final result.
With Judy's guidance, through hands on demonstration and PowerPoint presentation, you will learn not only the technical aspects of slow stitching, working with color and design, but also how to find elements of inspiration from the stunning natural and historic setting of Le Baux-de-Provence.
A unique zipper pouch designed, and hand sewn by Judy will contain your stitching kit including black linen, needles, a small pair of scissors, tailors pencil, and chalk.
A small sketchbook and pencil is recommended. Feel free to bring any embroidery floss you may want to use, Judy will also provide a large shared supply of embroidery floss for the group.
